Welcome to Gary & Viveca's Blog: A Journey of Writing, Faith, Story, and Discovery

Every journey begins somewhere. Ours has begun with a pen, a keyboard, a stack of ideas, far too many cups of coffee, and the shared conviction that stories still matter.

Welcome to garyandviveca.com, the online home for the writing, publishing, and creative work of Gary R. Uremovich and Viveca R. Yoshikawa. We are delighted to open this space for readers, friends, small-group leaders, seekers, encouragers, and fellow lovers of books to follow the dynamic journey of our writing life.

Our work has taken us into many different genres, and that has been part of the joy. We have written biblical fiction, historical novels, small-group Bible studies, grief and caregiving resources, spiritual formation materials, humorous reflections, devotional writings, and practical guides for people navigating faith, aging, relationships, loss, and purpose. At times, we have stepped into the ancient world of Scripture and imagined the lives of women and men who changed history. At other times, we have sat close to the modern human heart, writing about grief, caregiving, mental health, marriage, community, and the grace needed for daily life.

We have discovered that writing is not just about producing books. It is about listening. It is about asking questions. It is about wondering what might have been happening behind a biblical text, around a family table, inside a grieving heart, or within a person quietly trying to find hope again. Some stories make us laugh. Some make us pause. Some make us pray. The best ones often do all three.

One of the great surprises of this journey has been how naturally our different backgrounds have come together. Gary brings years of experience in medicine, ministry, teaching, pastoral care, grief work, and biblical reflection. Viveca brings deep experience in language, research, libraries, editing, world culture, history, and the literary arts. Together, we find ourselves drawn to stories that carry both thoughtfulness and warmth. We enjoy the details of history, but we also care deeply about the people inside the story.

Our books often return to a few core questions: How does faith grow in complicated lives? How do ordinary people become part of extraordinary stories? How do women and men find courage when the road ahead is unclear? How does grace meet us when we are tired, grieving, laughing, stumbling, learning, or beginning again?

That is why our writing has moved across so many forms. A biblical novel lets us imagine the dust, fear, humor, and courage of ancient lives. A Bible study invites people to gather in community and wrestle honestly with Scripture. A caregiving book offers companionship to someone walking a hard road. A humorous work reminds us that God created laughter long before we learned how badly we needed it. A devotional reflection gives us a moment to breathe.

We are convinced that writing can build bridges—between Scripture and life, history and imagination, grief and hope, scholarship and ordinary conversation. We also believe books are better when they invite discussion. Many of our works are written not only for individual readers but also for small groups, churches, book clubs, and communities of faith where questions are welcomed and stories are shared.

So this first blog is a celebration. It is a celebration of words, partnership, imagination, faith, and the remarkable adventure of beginning another chapter. We are grateful for every reader who has joined us, encouraged us, challenged us, prayed for us, laughed with us, and helped us keep writing.

There is much more ahead. New stories are forming. New studies are being shaped. New characters are stepping out of the shadows of history. New conversations are waiting to begin.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us.

May these pages offer warmth, light, honesty, hope, and perhaps even a little laughter along the way.
