Living Faith Together: An 8-Week Intergenerational Bible Study
About
Living Faith Together
An 8-Week Intergenerational Bible Study
What would happen if the generations in our churches stopped talking about one another and started talking with one another?
In many congregations, age groups live side by side but rarely share life together. Children gather in one room, youth in another, adults in another, and older adults somewhere else. While each ministry serves an important purpose, something vital is often lost when generations stop listening to one another. The result can be misunderstanding, stereotypes, missed opportunities for growth, and a weakened sense of community within the body of Christ.
Living Faith Together invites participants into a different vision—one rooted in Scripture and centered on meaningful conversation. Drawing inspiration from Psalm 145:4, “One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts,” this eight-week study explores what it means for believers of all ages to learn, worship, serve, and grow together.
Rather than presenting older adults as the teachers and younger people as the learners, this study embraces a biblical model of mutual exchange. Every generation carries experiences, insights, questions, strengths, and testimonies that can enrich others’ faith. Older believers bring wisdom forged through years of perseverance, loss, service, and God’s faithfulness. Younger believers offer fresh perspectives, creativity, energy, and questions that challenge assumptions and open new avenues of understanding. Children remind us of wonder, trust, and the joy of belonging. Together, these voices create a richer picture of God’s work in the world.
Through engaging Scripture studies, thoughtful discussion questions, personal reflection, and practical weekly exercises, participants are encouraged to move beyond generational stereotypes and discover the gifts present in every stage of life. The study creates space for honest conversations about faith, doubt, change, purpose, calling, service, conflict, and legacy while strengthening relationships across age boundaries.
Each session is designed to foster meaningful dialogue and not a lecture. Participants are invited to listen deeply, speak honestly, and discover how God continues to work through people whose experiences may differ greatly from their own. Whether used in churches, Sunday school classes, small groups, retreats, intergenerational ministries, or community gatherings, this study helps create a culture of respect, curiosity, and spiritual growth.
Written in a warm, accessible, and conversational style, Living Faith Together is ideal for churches seeking to strengthen community, deepen discipleship, and bridge generational divides. It is equally valuable for established congregations, newer church plants, community groups, and ministry leaders seeking practical ways to cultivate unity amid diversity.
The church was never intended to be a collection of isolated age groups occupying the same building. It was designed to be one body, united in Christ, where the wisdom of the past, the opportunities of the present, and the hope of the future meet in worship, service, and fellowship.
As participants journey through these eight weeks together, they will discover that intergenerational ministry is not simply about preserving traditions or embracing change. It is about recognizing God’s image in one another, learning from experiences different from our own, and joining together to declare His mighty works from generation to generation.
Whether you are young or old, a lifelong believer or newer to the faith, this study offers an invitation to listen, learn, encourage, and grow. Most importantly, it offers a vision of the church as God intended it to be—a community where every generation belongs, every voice matters, and every person has something to contribute to the ongoing story of God’s grace.
